ABOUT MARIA Maria is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Registered Play Therapist, experienced in providing individual, group and family therapy. She graduated from the Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis, earning her Master's Degree in Social Work, with a Specialization in Mental Health and Family Therapy. She received her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Missouri - Columbia. Before entering private practice, Maria gained extensive clinical experience working in variety of settings. She collaborated with families in crisis as an Intensive In-home Therapist, and worked closely with children & teens struggling with stress and anxiety, depression, ADHD, grief & loss, trauma, and symptoms of behavior disorders in community mental heath agencies and day treatment classroom settings. Maria's current clients include children, teens, and families experiencing a wide range of behavioral and emotional difficulties. She specializes in supporting parents who are struggling with their child's challenging behavior, who are seeking new perspectives and strategies to improve overall family functioning. She is skilled in assessing the whole child and provides individualized, creative interventions to help the client build new skills and improve overall self-regulation. APPROACH Maria's client-centered, therapeutic approach integrates evidenced-based treatments with the benefits of mindfulness. She encourages clients to build on their strengths, recognize and change patterns of thoughts and behaviors, develop and practice new skills, and gain insight to move toward positive change. She believes in the importance of a therapeutic relationship based on acceptance and respect for each individual just as they are. She helps clients achieve their goals using techniques influenced by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Interpersonal Neurobiology, Family Systems Theory, Polyvagal Theory, ACT & Play Therapy. |
